The Accokeek Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit partner organization of the National Park Service. The Foundation stewards 200 acres of Piscataway Park on the Maryland shore of the Potomac River across from George Washington's Mount Vernon.
The park is open daily to visitors, and thousands of school children visit annually for farm-based education, learning about environmental stewardship through a historical lens. With support from donors and members, the Accokeek Foundation provides a natural space for all to enjoy, for generations to come.
Description
The 2019 Accokeek Foundation Agriculture Conservation Corps (ACC) interns present a "Farm to Community Table" tasting series featuring food grown, harvested, and prepared by the interns with help from local chefs.
NATIVE AMERICAN FOODWAYS July 19, 1-3 pm This tasting will feature fry bread and other traditional Native dishes prepared by Piscataway Conoy clan mother, Cryz Proctor.
RESILIENCE: AFRICAN FOODWAYS July 26, 1-3 pm Traditional African foodways meet the present and future of agriculture. With a special museum theater performance featuring Interpretation Coordinator, Shemika Berry.
ICE CREAM SOCIAL JUSTICE August 1, 1-3 pm We all scream for ice cream. Now let's lend a voice to support environmental justice—while enjoying some homemade ice cream.

Join us—the ACC student interns—and select community partners as we pass on the perennial culinary knowledge and foodways of different berries, trees, plants, and resources to you and your kitchen. You will experience new foods, learn their background and properties, and find that some of these new and exciting foods are growing right in your own backyard!
ACC stands for Agriculture Conservation Corps, and it's a program that focuses on sustaining natural resources, preserving the land that is sacred to the Piscataway people, and exploring academic opportunities and careers. We're a community of students working towards using natural resources for everyday purposes, such as cooking, medicine, and pleasing aesthetics.
